Storyboard Track – 2023
Not so long ago, in the not-so small town of Houston, TX, you could often find a 3-year-old Chase exploring his dad’s home office. Out of the many knick-knacks, achievements and awards in the room; Chase was only fascinated with one notepad peeking over the edge of the desk. Once in his grasp, Chase doodled in that notepad like his life depended on it. He doodled all the various characters he had seen on TV such as Scooby-Doo, Barney, Mickey Mouse and of course his favorite, SpongeBob.
Fueled on cartoons and Disney movies, Chase continued to develop his love for drawing and began to create his own characters and stories. He spent all his time drawing and developing whatever stories that came to his mind. So much so, that he nearly failed his classes because he doodled in his books instead of taking notes. As much as he loved creating for himself, he also wanted to create work for others to enjoy. He began to draw comics and make stop motion movies based off the doodles from his imagination. Thankfully, no one watched them, but his parents saw his talent and enrolled him in an after-school art class.
From there, Chase continued exercising his love for art and channeled his love for filmmaking. In high school, he taught himself After Effects and made animated films. Thankfully, no one watched them either, however that didn’t stop his love for filmmaking. He went on to pursue a degree in Animation and make movies in college, one of which landed in multiple Oscar-qualifying film festivals. He won a scholarship for a Schoolism course on storyboarding and got involved with a mentorship program with UNCF.
After graduating, Chase took his real first steps to accomplishing his dreams by landing a dream internship at Disney Animation. The following year, Chase landed a Story Internship at Pixar which helped him learn how his personality can make his stories special. The only next step for him was to work at the place that inspired his drawing journey, the home of SpongeBob. Chase has come a long way in his drawing journey, but it has only just begun.
