Sean Bloomstine is one of five children. He’s the fourth boy, so he’s the gay one. Thems the rules. [Insert harrowing coming out journey here]. The words “brave” and “resilient” have been thrown around, but he eschews such epithets because he is far too humble.
Originally from Erie, Pennsylvania, he fell in love with television as early as he can remember. The family TV was a window into a world where he could fully express himself in a creative and fulfilling way. He would endlessly consume funny shows every weekend (he wasn’t allowed to watch TV on school nights) and realized early on that he wanted to be a part of this magical group of people who bring joy to others for a living. With this in mind, he began honing his comedic voice at the family dinner table. With so many siblings, the dinner table was pretty loud and chaotic most nights, and it was hard to get a word in edgewise. If Sean wanted to be heard, he had to come in at the right time and say just the right thing to make people laugh. And if he ever failed to land the punchline, his family would let him know with a long silence followed by one of his siblings sarcastically shouting, “cool story, Sean” before changing the subject. Tough crowd.
Sean didn’t know the first thing about pursuing a career in entertainment, so when he attended Boston College, naturally, he studied Economics and Mathematics while only pursuing his interests in comedy and writing through extracurriculars. Luckily, he was accepted to the NBCUniversal Page Program after graduating where he received a crash course in how the entertainment industry works. It was then that he finally saw a path towards his dreams of writing for television.
He has since worked in various positions throughout the industry while continuing to sharpen his comedy and writing skills any way he can. He’s written, directed, and starred in an award-avoiding web series, continues to post other comedic videos online, and performs stand up any chance he gets. All this while working on his latest screenplay that he’ll beg you to read once it’s in a good place or, more realistically, he’s sick of trying to fix the third act by himself.
Sean’s comedy often carries the same wacky sensibilities of the shows he grew up on. He wants to write stories with a positive, honest and relatable message that everyone can enjoy and laugh about. And with any luck, one day, his family will say “cool story, Sean” and actually mean it. Fingers crossed.
