Teddy Sevilla is a writer and comedian from suburban Massachusetts. He grew up in a Catholic Filipino/Irish/Italian-American family where he spent countless hours with his older sister dressing up as nuns and pretending to run a convent. As a kid, he discovered a love of storytelling through the game of “Mafia”– he was always unanimously killed first and thus tasked with narrating his friends’ assassinations for the rest of the game.

In college, he spent his days studying evolutionary biology and studio art, and spent his nights writing jokes and drawing comics for multiple comedy publications on campus. More importantly, he became obsessed with monkeys. He worked on a baboon research field site in Uganda as an undergraduate, which inspired him to write characters who love to eat bananas and throw poop at each other.

After graduating college, he moved to Brooklyn where he performed stand-up and worked as a contributor at Clickhole and The Onion. During the pandemic, he honed his comedic chops in the digital wild west of TikTok, where his sketches have accumulated over 11 million likes and only a couple of comments threatening to kidnap him.

Teddy’s mixed-race identity and mixed bag of interests forms the backbone of his writing. He loves smashing together seemingly incongruous topics to see what ideas and jokes pop out. Would Annie Oakley enjoy playing Fortnite, or think the game makes a mockery of the art of sharpshooting? If Shirley Temple came back to life as a skeleton, would she still be America’s Sweetheart? Better write about it!

A passion for animation spanning from Studio Ghibli to South Park has also been one of the most consistent forces in his life. As a visual art enthusiast, he enjoys drawing sketches, cartoons, and unflattering caricatures of his nemeses. He is thrilled to be participating in the Nick Writing Program and cannot wait for the year ahead– not just because the break room is stocked with bananas.
